Questions about installing Ubuntu on HP Mini 1000 netbook

Question:

Dear Ubuntu friends,
After trying out Windows 7 for some time I am returning to Ubuntu partially. I'm thinking about getting the HP Mini 1000 netbook for travel, and there's a couple different versions. The Mi edition and the Windows XP edition. I was thinking about getting the Mi edition because it's a lot cheaper with the linux based operating system.

Epson NX400 driver in Ubuntu

Question:

I've searched the forums and have found nothing to help me on this. I just purchased an Epson NX400. I plugged it in and Ubuntu recognized that I had a "Epson NX400" plugged in and attempted to set it up for me.
I followed on through the screens and then it came to the "Choose a Printer Driver" page. My printer isn't listed. It did, however, default to "Epson DX4800". I accepted, it installed, and I printed a test page.
All seems well minus the Scanning functionality. I opened xSane and it says I don't have any devices. Same in Kooka.

I don't know. Help!

Installing Ubuntu Jaunty on HP DV2 laptop

I recently purchased an HP dv2-1028 with AMD neo cpu, and an ATI 1250x, without a CD player. This was surprisingly a painless install, but there were few issues that arose, which I'm posting here (along with few solutions).

First off, since this laptop does not have a cd-player, I needed to setup a usb boot disk. Quick search brought me up to http://www.pendrivelinux.com. I followed the instruction for installing 9.04, but for some odd reason that failed (the USB key claims that it can't find the mounted partition. Seems to be the duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/366678), so I installed 8.10 instead which went ahead with a hitch. In fact, I was impressed on how quickly it could install the whole thing.
