HowTo: Undervolt your notebook CPU for longer battery life
Edit: EEEK!! Why is it to wide? Anyone else seeing it too wide? Anyone a clue how to fix it?
This howto is based on own experiences and this german wiki page, so thx to them.
It is tested for intel Core2Duo and CoreDuo cpus. I have no clue if it works for AMD as well. Some answers I received suggest that it currently doesn't work with AMD cpus however.
Graphics board vendor touts faster Linux drivers
AMD has released faster new ATI Catalyst drivers for Linux customers of its ATI FireGL professional graphics cards. The 8.49.7 Linux driver provides 33 percent faster OpenGL performance than the previous driver, claims the company.

The drivers support the ATI FireGL V3600 professional card (pictured above), as well as the high-end ATI FireGL V8650, which offers a 2GB frame-buffer memory configuration. The driver is also said to be compatible with the consumer-level ATI Radeon graphics card.
Nvidia says no to free drivers, I say no to Nvidia
Linux kernel developers issue a statement signed by about 100 developers that they find non-free kernel modules to be undesirable and harmful. As they say "Such modules negate the openness, stability, flexibility, and maintainability of the Linux development model and shut their users off from the expertise of the Linux community. Vendors that provide closed-source kernel modules force their customers to give up key Linux advantages or choose new vendors."
Right on.
NVIDIA Denies Opening Up Its Driver
Yesterday we reported on the Linux Foundation's message they have issued on the behalf of more than 140 kernel developers: Binary-only kernel modules are harmful and undesirable. While no vendor was singled out in this message, the biggest hardware manufacturer that has yet to provide any real level of open-source support is NVIDIA Corporation.
