Install AssaultCube games on Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1155342
Hello, in this tutorial I'll explain how to set up the necessary dependencies in order to run the game "AssaultCube" in Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04. This is the first tutorial I've ever written for the Ubuntu community, so if you notice that I'm missing anything, please say so and I'll try to correct it. Also, I'm assuming that you already have your ATI/NVidia graphics card drivers set-up. I'm running this using the Open Source ATI drivers included in Ubuntu 9.04 with no problems.

Why games are NOT the key to Linux adoption
Source: http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/community_posts/why_games_are_not_ke...
I have a number of concerns about a recent article about games [as] the key top Linux adoption. It nearly screams for scrutiny, as a it presents opinions and broad stereotypes as fact, contradicts itself and makes conclusions that have the capacity to hurt, not help the community.
Gamers are adventurous folks… [who] often build their own computers, either from scratch, a barebones kit, or a stripped down retail box…. therefore, [gamers] are a ripe target for the open source community.
Install automated (exe wrapped) Half-Life 2/CS mods
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1037099
Hello. This is a quick how-to on installing 3rd party mods for half-life 2/ Counter Strike. More specifically the mods that come packaged as an exe installer (zipped mods just need to be extracted to your SourceMods folder). The exe mods, when run in wine, give a "It seems like you don't have Steam Installed! You need to install Steam in order to play 'modname'." error. Even if steam is running at the time. To get around this error follow the steps below:
Audio problem when play World of Warcraft under Wine in Ubuntu 8.10
Question:
Okay, so I upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10 earlier today, and everything went smoothly.
I'm having one problem, though.
Whenever I open up World of Warcraft under Wine, the audio is absolutely horrible! I've never had a problem like this before, so I know it's something in 8.10 that's doing it.
The only advice I could find with google was to kill the PulseAudio process with the system monitor, but that just kills all of my sound.
Does anyone else have this problem? What do I do?

Play warcraft 3 in Ubuntu through WINE lags
Question:
I know I have full support for my video card and OpenGL and everything, and I have my video card drivers installed, and I have Warcraft III set to OpenGL, etc., but when I launch it even the menus are extremely choppy. It also flashes me pieces of the desktop. As far as any other aspect of the game... Well, truthfully I'm too afraid to try.
Hmm... Well, I manage to accidentally figure out the artifacts and flashes were because I had Visual Effects on for Compiz. The lagging is still unknown, but I'm gonna try installing the ATI driver. I thought I wouldn't need it since Alien Arena and even Extra Visual Effects doesn't lag one teeny bit, but I'm gonna try it.
Wii Remote in Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex (8.10)
Source: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=993376
Hello all! I know that many people liked Rhubarb's HOWTO about using the wiimote in Ubuntu but are confused on how to make it possible in Intrepid Ibex (8.10). So, I decided to make this guide, to help out Rhubarb and everyone else here in the forums!
(To avoid common mistakes and extra work I'll use some snippets from Rhubarb's original guide.)
This howto should help you get a Wii remote working as a mouse / keyboard / joystick in 32bit or 64bit (still untested in Intrepid) Ubuntu intrepid Ibex 8.10.
