Hi guys,

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Dell Studio 1450. Everything is working pretty well except my sound card. However, I could manage to fix it by following steps (this fix works including the audio jacks):

I bought my Lexmark Z2420 printer at walmart for $50 for my girlfriend's homework assignments. I've read around that the printer is a paperweight. I have it running on my ubuntu computer. Here's how:

1. Download lexmark-08z-series-driver-1.0-1.i386.deb.sh from here

How to get Wireless LAN (Broadcom) on Acer Aspire 4720Z working with Ubuntu 9.10

After about 2 or 3 years away from Linux, I busted it back out when my free trial of Windows 7 expired. The first problem I ran into, as many do, is getting the wireless LAN to work. I didn't find a thread relating to this exact laptop, and had to do a bit of research of my own to find the answer, so I figured I'd post a quick howto for anyone else running into this problem.

Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 Battery Icon

Question:

I suppose this should go here seeing that desktops don't have batteries normally.

Just upgraded... everything is going ok for the most part. Just noticed that the battery charging state/ plugged in icon is displaying what I can only assume is the default icons and not the icons in my pack which displayed fine in jaunty (of course). Does anyone have any clue as to the issue here. I'm guessing the battery applet is not looking for the icon in the same place as in juanty. Any ideas?

This solution comes from the other thread on this and other forums. This turns out to be pretty easy because the code is already written, it's just not on the canonical distro.

The fix is easy, I just wrote it wordy so that everyone could follow it.

So, to fix it in ubuntu 9.04 (jaunty), do the following:

No sound on Acer Aspire 2930Z both in Ubuntu and Kubuntu

Question:

I recently installed Xubuntu 9.04 on an Acer Aspire 2930Z. The only issue is that I can't get any sound working on the front ports (where the headphone, microphone and line-in ports are). This is an annoyance since I use my headphones all the time. How can I get this to work?
NOTE: I have used both Ubuntu and Kubuntu on this and they don't work either with the front ports.

I have been tearing my hair out for the last few weeks trying to get the internal mic working on my Acer. At first modifying the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file with various options but there were issues with noise and distortion. Finally I installed the Realtek Alsa driver for the sound card. Thanks to alpho2k blog on ALSA in Ubuntu
